Free Crochet Pattern: Simple Springtime Dishcloth / Washcloth

Free crochet pattern: Easy bright colored dishcloth or washcloth, 2/3 made with a single solid color and 1/3 coordinating variegated ball of yarn for a pretty pop of color.

  • Approx. 120 yards of Size 4 worsted weight cotton yarn – about 80 yards of one color, 40 yards of another color if you want a 2/3 split like the one in my photos.
  • Color A: I’m using Lily Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn in bright orange
  • Color B: I’m using Lily Peaches ‘n Cream cotton yarn in a variegated mix that has shades of orange to coordinate
  • Hook: Size H 5mm crochet hook – I’m using a Boye with comfortable rubber handle
  • Yarn needle for weaving ends
  • Scissors

ch – chain

hdc – half double crochet

sc – single crochet

sk – skip

sl st – slip stitch

t-ch – turning chain

14 stitches and 14 rows = 4×4 inches

Approx. 11″ x 11″

With color A, Chain 40 or any multiple of 2

Row 1: Sl st into the 2nd ch from hook, *1 hdc into the next st, sl st into the next st; Repeat from * across, turn. (39 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc into the first st, *sl st into the next st, 1 hdc into the next st; Repeat from * across, turn. (39 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1, sl st into the next st, *1 hdc into the next st, sl st into the next st; Repeat from * to across, turn. (39 sts)
Row 4-31:
 Repeat Rows 2-3

If changing colors to make it 1/3 variegated, Switch to Color B – Rows 32-45: Repeat Rows 2-3

Note: If your gauge isn’t working out quite the same (11″ x 11″), don’t worry. I’m aiming for a square washcloth so just measure your width = _____ inches. Then keep making rows until your length equals that measurement. I’m sure it will look just fine and your creation is YOURS, it’s as unique as you.

Happy Hooking!

The remaining orange yarn remnant and my mixed color ball – make yours solids, stripes, be creative. There’s so much yarn and so little time!

Here’s another one, featuring Easter pastels.

I'd love to hear from you, comments or questions are welcome!
