Free Crochet Patterns: Super Star Designs

From holidays to celebrations to bedroom decor, these stars are practically a necessary staple for home decor. They all work up super fast, are super easy to make, I’d say even mildly addictive. Once I started, I had a hard time stopping. They truly are super stars!

I believe there’s so many ways to use this pattern! I’m thinking… patriotic holidays (flag colors), Christmas (green,red, white), baby room decor (yellow, pink, soft blue), or what else can you dream up?

The Patterns (multiple size and finish options)

  • Hook: I/5.5mm
  • Yarn: 100% cotton, pictured here is Hobby Lobby “I Love This Cotton” in white, red, and dark denim

Special Stitches

dc2tog:
[Yo, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook] twice, yo, pull through all 3 loops on hook.

dc3tog:
[Yo, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook] 3 times, yo, pull through all 4 loops on hook.

Small Super Star (coaster, bunting, home decor)

Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, ch 5, join with sl st to first ch to form ring. ch 2 (first dc), dc2tog into ring, ch 3, [dc3tog into ring, ch 3] 4 times; join with sl st to top of first ch2 (first dc).

Rnd 2:
Sl st in next ch-3 sp, ch 3 (first DC), (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same sp, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp] around; join with sl st to first dc (top of ch3).

Rnd 3:
Sl st in next dc, ch 2, hdc in next dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, hdc in next 2 dc, skip next 2 dc, [hdc in next 2 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, hdc in next 2 dc, skip next 2 dc] around; join with sl st to first dc (top of ch2).

For smallest size Super Star: Stop here, tie off, weave in ends.

Larger Super Star: dishcloth, wash cloth, trivet, home decor

Larger size, with optional decorative edging

Rounds 1-3 from small star an continue with Rnd 4: Sl st in next stitch, ch 3, dc in next 3 sts, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, dc in next 4 sts, skip next 2 sts, [dc in next 4 sts, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, dc in next 4 sts, skip next 2 sts] around; join. (Note: 7 stitches up each side, from star valley to star point)

Rnd 5:
Sl st in next dc, ch 3, dc in next 5 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, dc in next 6 dc, skip next 2 dc, [dc in next 6 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, dc in next 6 dc, skip next 2 dc] around; join. (Note: 9 stitches up each side, from star valley to star point)

Rnd 6:
Sl st in next dc, ch 3, dc in next 7 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, dc in next 8 dc, skip next 2 dc, [dc in next 8 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, dc in next 8 dc, skip next 2 dc] around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (Note: 11 stitches up each side, from star valley to star point)

Optional: Edging

With right side facing, join complimentary color yarn with sc to any ch-2 sp, ch 3, sc in same sp (point), * [ch 3, skip next sc, sc in next sc] 5 times, skip next 2 sc (valley), [sc in next sc, ch 3, skip next sc] 5 times, (sc, ch 3 sc) in next ch-2 sp (point); rep from * around, omitting last point on final repeat; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
